Broomy Hill's Memory Walk

Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s Society

This past Saturday, we were delighted to host a wonderful community event at Broomy Hill Nursing Home in Hereford, where residents, carers, families, and friends came together for our Memory Walk in aid of Alzheimer’s Society for Alzheimer's Awareness Month. Despite the wet weather, spirits were high as we rallied together for this important cause, raising both awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research and support.

The walk was a simple yet meaningful route around the block, and it was inspiring to see our residents enjoying the fresh air, surrounded by the support of our dedicated carers and volunteers. Wheelchairs were kindly pushed by family members and visitors, adding to the strong sense of community that defines Broomy Hill.

We were especially proud to be joined by Karon’s grandson, Max, who walked alongside us. Max, a student at Our Lady’s School in Hereford and a member of the Hereford Wye Side Badgers, has long been connected to our home through his family, and his participation was truly special. Max’s efforts in the lead-up to the walk were incredible—he raised a massive £330 in sponsorships and by doing odd jobs in the community. What a fantastic achievement! We are so proud to have him as part of the Broomy Hill family.

After the walk, everyone was treated to delicious hot dogs prepared by our kitchen team, Andy and Ewa, who worked hard to make sure there was something warm and comforting to enjoy back at the home. It was the perfect end to a successful day, with everyone gathered together, sharing stories and laughter over a well-deserved meal.

A huge thank you goes out to all the carers, visitors, friends, and family members who helped make the day such a success. Whether it was pushing a wheelchair, walking alongside our residents, or cheering them on, every bit of support was greatly appreciated.

Alzheimer’s Awareness Month holds a special place in our hearts here at Ashberry Healthcare, as we specialise in dementia care in most of our homes. Every day, we work to create a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for our residents living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. It’s crucial to continue raising awareness, not just during this month, but all year round, to support those affected by this condition.

If you are concerned about a loved one showing signs of memory loss or dementia, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Our compassionate team at Broomy Hill is here to provide advice, support, and professional care for those in need.

Once again, thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s Memory Walk. Together, we are making a difference—one step at a time.
