Meet Becky, our Wellbeing Coordinator

Becky has been a vital part of the Holmer Court Care Home family for 10 years. Over the last three years, she has led our well-being efforts, making a significant impact on both our residents and the broader community.

Before joining Holmer Court, Becky had a completely different career as a florist. However, her passion for people and her desire to make a difference led her to change paths. Becoming a Wellbeing Coordinator seemed like the perfect opportunity to combine her creative skills with her love for helping others. Becky quickly discovered that this role allowed her to truly connect with residents, not just as a caregiver but as a friend.

Becky believes that well-being encompasses every aspect of a resident’s life—emotional, physical, and social. She takes the time to get to know each resident individually, carefully gauging their mood and energy levels before planning activities. Whether it’s a seasonal event like our Spring celebration, a Summer fete, or Christmas crafts, Becky ensures that each activity is meaningful and tailored to the resident’s needs. She also invites the local community to be a part of these events, fostering connections between our residents and the wider world, including visits from local schools, entertainers, and even the college for the blind.

What truly sets Becky apart is her commitment to personalizing each resident’s experience. She creates individualised plans that focus on setting goals, pushing comfort zones, and achieving new milestones. If one activity doesn’t work out, Becky always finds an alternative way to help residents reach their goals. Her approach is all about seeing beyond the limitations and encouraging residents to embrace new challenges.

Affectionately known as the ‘pink lady’ by residents who may not always remember her name, Becky has built incredible friendships within our community. She extends her support to families as well, especially when they feel nervous about visiting or taking their loved ones out. Becky often arranges outings that include family members, helping them feel more connected and confident in their loved one’s care. Through her efforts, she has created a true sense of community at Holmer Court, where friendships and confidence flourish.

Becky’s philosophy is simple yet profound: don’t define a resident by their illness. She believes every individual has so much more to offer, even in the later stages of life. She takes pride in seeing residents learn new skills, pick up hobbies, and surprise their families with their capabilities. Her goal is to ensure that every resident feels valued and cared for, living a life full of purpose and joy.

Becky’s dedication has not gone unnoticed. She was honoured at the Hereford Times Health and Social Care Awards 2023, where she won the Dementia Carer Award and the Mental Health Specialist Award. She accepted the awards via facetime as she could not make it to the event. These accolades are a testament to her exceptional work and the positive impact she has on our residents’ lives.

We are incredibly fortunate to have Becky as part of our team, and her passion for her work continues to inspire everyone at Holmer Court.
