Employee spotlight: Meg, wellbeing coordinator

Meet Meg, our vibrant and passionate Wellbeing Coordinator at The Weir Nursing Home. At just 17 years old, Meg is already making a remarkable impact on the lives of our residents with her infectious energy, warmth, and natural ability to brighten our residents day.

Although she hadn’t initially planned to work in the care sector, Meg joined us with an open mind—and quickly discovered her calling. As she lives with her grandparents, Meg has always loved spending time with older people. She knew early on that she wanted a career where she could connect with others, not be stuck behind a desk.

Meg began her journey in the kitchen, but her outgoing personality and quick wit made her a natural fit for our wellbeing team. It wasn’t long before she transitioned into her current role, where she helps deliver meaningful, fun, and engaging activities for our residents everyday.

With her sights firmly set on a career in care, Meg plans to become a carer when she turns 18 this July. She’s already studying for her NVQ Level 2 and has big ambitions for the future: from carer to team leader, CHAP (Care Home Assistant Practitioner), and eventually, training to become a nurse at university. Her enthusiasm and determination is truly inspiring, and we’re proud to support her on this journey.

Meg shared how excited she was when Ashberry Healthcare took over The Weir in January, noting the positive culture and clear pathways for progression within the company.

“The job is so rewarding,” Meg says. “I love seeing the smiles and knowing the residents appreciate what we do. There’s nothing more special than caring for people who are so thankful.”

And her advice for anyone considering a career in care?
“Just do it. They’ll look after you, and you’ll get so much back.”

We’re so lucky to have Meg on our team—her energy and compassion is an inspiration to us all.
