At our care homes, Remembrance Day is always a special occasion. It's a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many, and this year, our homes celebrated the day in a way that was personal and meaningful for each of our residents. Here are some of the highlights from the different homes in our care network:
Engelberg Care Home
At Engelberg, in Wolverhampton, we were touched by the talent and dedication of our carer, Tara, who took it upon herself to create beautiful, handmade poppies that adorned our dining tables as centrepieces for Remembrance Day. Each poppy was crafted with care, and they were a lovely tribute to those who have served. It was heart-warming to see the residents appreciate the artistry and thoughtfulness behind the display.
Broomy Hill Nursing Home
Broomy Hill’s residents marked the day with a quiet and respectful two-minute silence at 11:00 AM. This took place in their own remembrance garden, a peaceful space lovingly created by Neil (maintenance) and Andy (gardener). With Neil being ex-military, as well as some of our residents, the occasion had a deeply personal meaning. To further honour the service of our veterans, we also visited St John's Church for the Remembrance Sunday service and watched part of the parade in Hereford town. It was a moving experience for everyone involved.
Meadowview Care Home
At Meadowview, we kicked off the day with a musical treat from Deb, who entertained our lovely residents with golden oldies and Remembrance Day-themed songs. The atmosphere was filled with joy and nostalgia, as the songs brought back fond memories for many. It was a huge success, and our residents had a wonderful time singing along and reminiscing about times past. We had a lovely visit from our Penketh Primary children who created Poppy art which has a special place on the wall at Meadowview.
Moorhouse Care Home
Over at Moorhouse, the lead-up to Remembrance Sunday was marked by a creative and meaningful project. Our residents worked together to handcraft beautiful poppies, which were then displayed as a tribute to those who have served. The poppy display was a heartfelt way for our residents to contribute to the remembrance, and they took great pride in their work.
Each care home celebrated Remembrance Day in its own unique way, but all were united by a shared sense of respect, gratitude, and remembrance for those who served. These moments of reflection are more than just traditions; they provide a meaningful connection to our past and remind us of the importance of remembering those who have given so much for our freedom. We are proud to have been part of such a heartfelt and reflective occasion across all our homes.
