Employee Spotlight | Kerry, wellbeing coordinator

At Ashberry Care Homes, our Wellbeing Coordinators are at the heart of making each day meaningful and enjoyable for residents. From arranging lively social events to creating personalised activity plans, they make sure everyone has something to look forward to. They connect residents with the local community, organise outings, and ensure that each individual’s hobbies and interests are celebrated. Most importantly, they are a friend, a listening ear, and someone who knows just how to lift everyone’s spirits.

We are delighted to feature Kerry, the Wellbeing Coordinator at Moorhouse Care Home in Hindhead, whose journey in care began at just 18. Kerry’s first role was as a carer in the same care home where her great-uncle lived. Her grandmother, initially reluctant to move him into care, found peace knowing Kerry was there to support him.

This role was an eye-opening experience for Kerry. Her uncle’s inability to speak after a stroke made communication challenging, but Kerry soon learned to understand his needs without words. “I wanted the best for him,” she recalls of those early days. This experience taught her the importance of providing genuine, compassionate care and instilled a deep empathy that guides her to this day. “From that moment on, I saw every resident as family,” she shares. “I always ask myself, ‘How would I want my loved ones to be treated?’”

Her dedication to compassionate care didn’t go unnoticed. At a previous position, management saw her special connection with residents and recognised her potential. Her manager and his wife observed her natural gift and soon after offered her the role of Activity Coordinator, a role Kerry embraced.

Today, Kerry channels her passion at Ashberry, where she not only enhances residents’ well-being but also reimagines their spaces. Along with the team, she has great plans for the “Lutyens Lounge” at Moorhouse, named in honour of Sir Edwin Lutyens, who has connections to the original building. The lounge will feature cosy seating, a kitchenette, and will be used for whatever the residents want it for. Kerry collaborates closely with the residents on this project, involving them in each step. “I want them to feel they have a say in everything. This is their home,” she says, emphasising her resident-led approach, which embodies the personalised care that Moorhouse aspires to provide.

When asked what brings her the most fulfilment in her job, she says, “Seeing people happy and living life to the full.”

For those new to a well-being role, Kerry offers wise advice: “Listen. Not just to words, but to what they’re truly saying.” Her words reflect a commitment that goes beyond tasks; for Kerry, every interaction is an opportunity to enrich lives—a mission she continues to carry forward each day at Moorhouse.
